Obsidian in the Ancient American Southwest

Archaeology 101 Series / with Sean Dolan

June 30, 2018
1:00 pm through 2:00 pm

Before the Spanish arrived in the American Southwest, obsidian was the sharpest material available for making stone tools for hunting, warfare, and ceremony. Each flow of this volcanic glass has a unique geothermal fingerprint, allowing archaeologists to trace social interaction, trade, and mobility in ancient times. Lecture delivered by Sean Dolan, a LANL archaeologist and Oklahoma University graduate student.
